WGA TV Career Launch ScriptFest: Turning Great Scripts Into WGA Careers!

We have just unveiled an extraordinary initiative for TV writers eager to break into the entertainment industry: the WGA TV Career Launch ScriptFest. Created and managed by seasoned WGA members, this program offers aspiring television writers a chance to showcase their talent, connect with industry leaders, and jumpstart a career in mainstream television.

HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT?
HOW TO QUALIFY

A Program Built by Writers for Writers!

How are we different? First, we limit our script festival to 1,000 submissions, from which we select a minimum of 24 winners. At the awards ceremony, the winners will be "drafted" by a showrunner on an existing series and be paid to write an episode of their show, which in turn will earn 8 of the required 24 points to qualify the writer for WGA membership. To date, we have commitments from producers for 24 episodes; however, should there be enough high-quality submissions -- and should the producers have the funds –- that number of assignments will increase. We do not hand out trophies, laurels, certificates, or "discounts" on Zoom sessions with a so-called mentor. We hand out paid WGA-qualifying assignments on existing shows. In other words: You win, you're in!

Participants must meet the following requirements:

1.  Submit a Script: Writers can submit a 30-minute or 60-minute script for an existing TV show or an original pilot as a sample of their work.

2.  Professional Format: Scripts should adhere to industry-standard formatting, with Final Draft software strongly preferred, and submitted in PDF form.

3.  Registration: All submissions must be registered with the WGA or the U.S. Copyright Office.

4. Submission Details:

Scripts should be no more than 45 or 70 pages, depending on the category.

Submissions must include:

•  Title Page: Title and name of author.

•  One-Pager: A logline and brief summary.

Celebrate the Winners at Signing Day!

The competition culminates in a Signing Day event at the prestigious Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills, California. The event will echo the excitement of the NFL Draft as winners take the stage to accept their assignments. Their script titles and loglines will be read aloud, celebrating their creativity and dedication. Family, friends, producers, and agents will share in the joy of this milestone.

Run entirely by seasoned volunteer WGA members, the WGA TV Career Launch ScriptFest is designed to nurture new talent, address the growing demand for fresh content across expanding entertainment platforms, and help promising writers take their first steps toward industry success.

This is not just a competition -- it’s a transformative opportunity to reshape your career and your life. But remember, while the WGA member volunteers provide the platform, it’s up to you to do the hard work.

Awards & Prizes: The 24 winners will receive an unparalleled career boost:

•Script Assignment: Winners will be assigned to write either a 30-minute or 60-minute script for a WGA-covered TV series, gaining real-world experience in the writers’ room.

•Representation: Winners will secure an agent to guide their careers and open doors to new opportunities.

•WGA Membership: Winners will join the ranks of WGA members, unlocking access to invaluable industry resources.
